NOTE: To be avoided, at least as a commercial

Dylan's career; whatever the musical merits, the manufacturer's
flagrant disrespect for the artist should not be rewarded. Adding
injury to insult, the final two tracks (backed by the Dead) are
mastered at the wrong speed.

(2) Tomorrow Night, Jim Jones, Mr. Tambourine Man, Don't Think
Twice
DEEP: A fantastic show presented in very good quality,
albeit it's not as sharp as the best. The sound seems close-up,
more like a club show than an arena gig. The combo of the intimate
feel, the terrific performance and the 6-song acoustic set makes
for a great listen; the acoustic set is a wild ride. Not a Hall of
Famer but no slouch, either.

THE N.E.T. IN FRANCE - VOL 2 (DIJON)
Lucky 009/010 [T-618]
(1) Forum (Dijon, France); July 1, 1998
(2) Ibarapuera Sporting Complex (Rio De Janiero, Brazil); April 11,
1998
Tracklist: (1) Seeing The Real You At Last, Tonight I'll Be Staying
Here With You, Cold Irons Bound, You're A Big Girl Now, Silvio, Mr.
Tambourine Man, A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, Mama You Been On My
Mind, Tangled Up In Blue, Forever Young, Memphis Blues Again, I
& I, Highway 61 Revisited, Don't Think Twice, Love Sick, Rainy
Day Women #12 & 35, Blowin' In The Wind
(2) Like A Rolling Stone (w/Rolling Stones)
DEEP: Once again, the sound is loud and strong, separated
nicely from the music but retaining a somewhat murky quality that
detracts from the overall enjoyment just a tad. A disk that
deserves more than a cursory listen as there are many hidden
pleasures throughout. The sound takes a step up on the 5-song
acoustic set. The filler track, with the Stones in Brazil, should
be excised; it's pretty horrendous. A good listen overall, not up
to the standards of previous delights but a reliable utility
vehicle when those are played out. Nice color package design with
vintage pics, like the Paris package.

NOTE: This set appears to be a pointless compilation of "Midfyn" and an as yet

THE NEVER ENDING TOUR FEATURING LIZ SIOUSSI
Take It Or Leave It 9417/18 [T-380]
Muziek Centrum (Eindhoven, Netherlands); February 17, 1993
Tracklist: Folsom Prison Blues, The Man In Me, All Along The
Watchtower, Tangled Up In Blue, Watching The River Flow, Memphis
Blues Again, Silvio, Tomorrow Night, Jim Jones, Gates Of Eden, It's
All Over Now Baby Blue, Cat's In The Well, I And I, Times They Are
A-Changin', Highway 61 Revisited, Ballad Of A Thin Man, Everything
Is Broken, It Ain't Me Babe
rmd: Probably a good concert (if you were there), but the
sound here is so bad that only the drums come through clearly
during the electric sets. It's a bit better when the acoustic
guitars come out, but still quite unsatisfying.

NEVER ENDING TOUR REHEARSALS
Moonlight 9623/24 [T-022]
Power Station rehearsals (New York, NY); May 1989
Tracklist: Unidentified blues, I Shall Be Released, Making
Believe, Early Morning Rain, Shot Of Love, Give My Love To Rose,
Man Gave Names To All The Animals, Lonesome Whistle Blues, Both
Sides Now, Too Far Gone, California Blues, Shot Of Love, Jam,
Little Queen Of Spades, I'm Not Supposed To Care, Not Fade Away,
Every Day, When Did You Leave Heaven, Everybody's Movin', I'll
Remember You, Ballad Of A Thin Man, Peace In The Valley, Shelter
From The Storm, Most Likely You Go Your Way, Just Like Tom Thumb's
Blues, Tomorrow Is A Long Time, Silvio.
:DEEP: A curious beast in that it's not a typical NET
rehearsal session. The backing band has a strong country flavor to
it, there's a violin and a harmonica player in there and the
drumming does not sound at all like C. Parker's rock drumming but
has a jauntier, country feel to it. Three of the vocals are taken
by Mindy Jostyn (not Emmylou Harris as credited). Recording quality
is excellent though not up to studio soundboard standards. All in
all a very enjoyable disk with some fascinating moments.
CDG: Some very interesting songs, including lots of covers,
in nice quality.

(5) Rank Strangers To Me
(6) Long Black Veil
(7) (Sooner Or Later) One Of Us Must Know
(8) Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, Forever

DEEP: The complete Cardiff show presented in extremely good
sound with upfront Bob vocals and a nice overall warmth to the
recording. Arguably the best of the 4 UK shows in October. The
cover graphics are well worth mentioning, mimicking the legendary
and colorful cut and paste motif of the Sex Pistols debut album of
the same name.
CDG: Recording quality is excellent, and the band sounds
very tight. This cd has almost all of the new and rare songs of
1997. The filler is very well chosen. Highly recommended.
rmd: On the earliest versions of this set, the filler tracks
are in relatively poor quality, perhaps because the set was
released very shortly after the show. The problem was corrected
after the initial batch of discs were pressed.
NOTE: The filler on these CDs is duplicated on the later "Love Sick."

NEW FOUND FAITH
Wanted Man WMM 058/059 [T-405]
Fox Warfield Theater (San Francisco, CA); November 1, 1979
Tracklist: Gotta Serve Somebody, I Believe In You, When You Gonna
Wake Up?, When He Returns, Man Gave Names To All The Animals,
Precious Angel, Slow Train, Covenant Woman, Gonna Change My Way Of
Thinking, Do Right To Me Baby, Solid Rock, Saving Grace, What Can
I Do For You, Saved, In The Garden, Blessed Be The Name, Pressing
On
rmd: Sound quality is good enough. Probably the worst of
the commonly circulating shows from this tour. It was the first
night: Bob's nervous, the band is a little uncomfortable with the
scene, and the audience is in shock. (DM)
Historically interesting, but hardly one of the better 1979
Warfield shows. The sound is pretty good. "Contract With The Lord" is far
superior, on performance, as well as sound. (WP)

DEEP: Dylan and band took things to a new level in a blazing
show tempered by a gorgeous, emotion-wracked acoustic set. From the
sound of things, Dylan was really pumped full of energy during this
show. A nice set list also. One for the ages, IMO. Sound quality
is excellent, up front, right there. My candidate for 1994 show of
the year on CD. (Filler trax from the 20th in excellent sound, well
chosen.

DEEP: It doesn't get much better than this set. Clear,
upfront sound with great dynamics, both from the club and the
arena. The MSG setlist was certainly unique among the
Dylan/Simon shows, providing a welcome change from the usually
static setlist. The Tramps set is found here in equally
fine quality. Another nattily packaged set.
rmd: Excellent sound quality on both shows, excellent
performances throughout.
rmd: This is very, very special. Two complete shows, both audience recordings of excellent quality, beautifully presented. Overwhelming. Overwhelming.

Wanted Man WMM 051 [T-395]
National Exhibition Centre (Birmingham, UK); June 7, 1989
Tracklist: Subterranean Homesick Blues, Lonesome Town, Highway 61
Revisited, You're A Big Girl Now, John Brown, All Along The
Watchtower, Barbara Allen, Girl From The North Country, Mr
Tambourine Man, Silvio, I Shall Be Released, Like A Rolling Stone,
Blowin' In The Wind, One Too Many Mornings, Knockin' On Heaven's
Door, Congratulations, Maggie's Farm
NOTE: The opening track is reportedly incomplete, and a fan variant reportedly restores the missing portion of the song from an analog recording.

NO REASON TO CRY SESSIONS
Eric In Person 012 1CD [T-051]
Not recommended. This reportedly borders on being a pirate disc. Ostensibly a collection of outtakes, featuring Dylan only on "Sign Language," but described in Clapton discographies as consisting almost entirely of released tracks, with minimally extended intros and endings.

Storm, You're A Big Girl Now
(2) Ballad Of A Thin Man, Blowin' In The Wind

(6) When I Paint My Masterpiece, Shelter From The Storm, Love Minus
Zero, Little Moses, Desolation Row, It Ain't Me Babe, Cat's In The
Well, Absolutely Sweet Marie, The Lady Of Carlisle, Times They Are
A-Changin'
NOTE: Some of the Wolf Trap tracks may come from the
September 8, 1993 concert. All the songs were performed on
September 9, but the track order is thoroughly scrambled.
rmd: While the 1993 tracks are interesting; the 1992 tracks
are amazing: harbingers of the best days of the NET. Sound quality
on these audience recordings is superb.

NORTH STAGE
Crystal Cat 345 [T-477]
Woodstock Festival (Saugerties, NY); August 14, 1994 (line)
Tracklist: Jokerman, Just Like a Woman, All Along the Watchtower,
It Takes A Lot To Laugh It Takes A Train To Cry, Don't Think Twice,
Masters Of War, It's All Over Now Baby Blue, God Knows, I Shall Be
Released, Highway 61 Revisited, Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, It Ain't
Me Babe
DEEP: A late entry to the rather long list of Woodstock
performances on CD, and the best of the lot. Complete and in
excellent stereo sound with clear separation of the band and full-
frontal vocals. A watershed performance that justifiably generated
renewed interest and acclaim for the man of today! Exceptional
packaging adds to the desirability of the disk, with a color
contact sheet of great photos as the front cover; the clear disk
tray allows viewing of a close-up pic of Bob signing autographs.
First rate job from Crystal Cat.

NORTH WIND BLOWING
Kiss The Stone 578/79 [T-522]
Spektrum (Oslo, Norway); July 18, 1996
Tracklist: Leopard-Skin Pillbox Hat, Man In The Long Black Coat,
All Along The Watchtower, Positively 4th Street, Most Likely You Go
Your Way, Silvio, Tangled Up In Blue, Hattie Carroll, Hollis Brown,
Absolutely Sweet Marie, Ballad Of A Thin Man, Highway 61 Revisited,
Girl Of The North Country, Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, My Back
Pages
DEEP: There is something very ordinary about this
performance; it never reaches up and grabs me or seems to catch
fire, but it threatens to spark several times. The sound quality,
which I'd consider very good, also lacks excitement. The vocals are
there, the instruments are well defined, but there is a lack of
warmth and fullness -- it sounds clinical and cold.
CDG: An excellent recording of a chilling performance, with
a particularly wonderful acoustic set.

Babe, Rainy Day Women #12 & 35
(2) I Want You, I'll Be Your Baby Tonight, Memphis Blues Again,
Watching The River Flow
DEEP: Nice quality and an excellent performance with some
rarely played tunes make for good listening in my book. A nice set
of good quality bonus trax also. A decent set but not essential.
Packaging is quite lame.

(2) Simple Twist Of Fate, One Too Many Mornings, John Brown
(3) Desolation Row, Knockin' On Heaven's Door
DEEP: The TOOM-heavy New London show presented in
exceptional quality. SIX, count 'em, 6 TOOM songs given an
airing at this outing and the rest of the setlist is a killer, too.
Bob and the boys are up to the task as usual - strong vocals and
energetic backing on the rockers, tender and emotive on the
"quieter" ones. This show is a special one, make no
mistake. Well selected filler tracks from the NYC run that
followed. Nice cover, too.

DEEP: Another release presenting the TOOM-heavy New
London, CT show and bearing the same title as its predecessor.
Quality-wise, another outstanding effort and I may give the nod to
this release as it is as clear and crunchy as a fresh bagel chip.
The bonus tracks here will simply floor you and the quality is top
notch. Great stuff!!

NOTHING BUT YOU
Red Sky 1005 [T-329]
Seashore Performing Arts Center (Old Orchard Beach, ME); July 15,
1989
Tracklist: Subterranean Homesick Blues, Nothing But You, Ballad Of
Hollis Brown, You're A Big Girl Now, Ballad Of A Thin Man, Shot Of
Love, Love Minus Zero, She Belongs To Me, Mr. Tambourine Man,
Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat, Masters Of War, I Shall Be Released,
Like A Rolling Stone, Two Soldiers, Blowin' In The Wind, All Along
The Watchtower
rmd: While the sound quality is not up to the standard of many of the more recent audience recordings, this disc is very listenable. The audience noise is atmospheric rather than intrusive. Dylan's performance is excellent throughout, and the atmosphere of the recording really compliments the raunchy rock 'n' roll attitude of the 1989 shows.

rmd: There is perhaps no better bootleg available then this
one. This could easily be a commercial release. (Anthony

The Wanted Man release "Now's The Time For Your Tears" is
reportedly much better than the Swingin' Pig release "Now
Ain't The Time For Your Tears."
