DEEP: Another outstanding El Rey show. A warm, crisp
sounding set that is characterized by the vigor with which Dylan
attacks each and every tune. His yearning vocals and incomparable
phrasing stand out, he twists and turns words and sounds inside
out, this way and that, peeling away the seeming endless layers of
emotion in his songs. A "darker" feeling embodies this
show, a feeling of dread and foreboding lurking beneath the grit of
Dylan's delivery. The band seems to always set this most unique of
tables, and allow Dylan to serve up his one-of-a-kind menu of love,
hate, fear, regret, desire, desperation and adventure.

TO BE AVOIDED: Reportedly has poorly reproduced sound with
excessive digital noise.
EDLIS: "Oh Mercy Outtakes" has some harsh tracks
and can be difficult to listen to depending on your equipment,
which track, and individual tolerance.

OH THE STREETS OF ROME
Wanted Man WMM 031/032 [T-294]

DEEP: A soundboard (a little off-pitch) which suffers from
an uneven mix which puts Mick Taylor's guitars in the background,
but the vocals are right up front.

OKAY, I STILL GET STONED
Blue Eyes 008 1CD
Festival Hall (Brisbane, Australia); March 15, 1978 (line)
Tracklist: Love Her With A Feeling, Mr Tambourine Man, I Threw It All Away, Shelter From The Storm, Love Minus Zero, Girl From The North Country, Ballad Of A Thin Man, Maggie's Farm, To Ramona, Oh Sister, Simple Twist Of Fate, All Along The Watchtower, The Man In
Me, All I Really Want To Do, It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
NOTE: This CD does not include the entire circulating recording, which has 3 additional tracks.
CDG: A fine sampler from the early part of the 1978 World Tour. The real disappointment is the sound quality; a once-excellent soundboard tape has been mishandled and incorrectly mastered. But the sound is still quite good, and several of the performances excellent. Still, the official Bob Dylan At Budokan better represents this phase of Dylan's performing.
rmd: While Dylan is not in his best vocal form, he has a lot of energy. While no tracks are class, and, as often happened in 1978, things sometimes get muddled, this is a good listen. Sound quality is very good.

35
(2) Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues
(3) The Man In Me
(4) When I Paint My Masterpiece
(5) Absolutely Sweet Marie, Viola Lee Blues
DEEP: A direct clone of the Japanese set "Hollis Brown At Ivy," same
tracks, same sound. Refer to DEEP #55 (1997), which contains the
review of that disk. The same holds true for this clone of it.
CDG: Recording quality is excellent. The performance is
solid, but nothing special.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Red Sky 1002 [T-201]
Ballpark (Old Orchard Beach, ME); July 3, 1988
Tracklist: Subterranean Homesick Blues, Tangled Up In Blue, Highway
61 Revisited, Simple Twist Of Fate, Frankie Lee And Judas Priest,
Masters Of War, Times They Are Changin', To Ramona, Trail Of The
Buffalo, You're A Big Girl Now, Like A Rolling Stone, Hard Rain's
A-Gonna Fall, Silvio, All Along The Watchtower
NOTE: A fan-produced variant of this disc adds the missing tenth song, "Maggie's Farm."

OLDIES BUT GOLDIES LIVE
Not an individual CD, but a cover banner used on a line of bootleg CDs
by several different artists. Sometimes used in error as a variant title
for "Acoustic Set NYC 1963," because the banner is much more prominent that the actual title on the CD cover.

OLYMPIC PLEASURE
Abacus 001 [T-191]
Olympiahalle (Innsbruck, Austria); June 14, 1991
Tracklist: Simple Twist Of Fate, Gotta Serve Somebody, Bob Dylan's

Like A Woman, Homeward Bound, I Shall Be Released, Like A Rolling
Stone, Blowin' In The Wind, Highway 61 Revisited.
CDG: A surprisingly good performance for the time, in very
good sound. Incomplete.

Thin Man, Shot Of Love, Queen Jane Approximately, Dead Man Dead
Man, I Shall Be Released, Clean-Cut Kid, I Want You, John Brown,
Watching The River Flow, Slow Train
DEEP: Befuddling. Combining Kiel '94 and Rotterdam '87 is a
decision that was obviously made by someone who just doesn't get
it. The Kiel is a nice show in very good quality, though not as
distinctively crisp and clear, on the whole, as the best audience
recordings. The vocals are upfront and in your face, instruments
are well balanced and sharp, but a couple of generations below the
master here. A fine show with an acoustic set that will leave you
slack-jawed. An unbelievable stretch of genius here. Final two
tracks stupidly not included but can be found on "Best Wishes."
At the
Rotterdam show, Dylan and the Heartbreakers steamroll through 12
tracks with a fiery gusto, most driven by some sweet keyboard
tinkling by Benmont Tench and Dylan's no-nonsense vocals. An
incredibly fun show to listen to, but the final two tracks are
missing. Generic cover design.
CDG: The Kiel recording is wonderful; the sound is full,
Dylan's vocals are upfront, and the performance is great.
Rotterdam is not quite so good: the show is a bit messy, and
Dylan's voice sounds tired and ragged. The show still holds a few
gems. All in all, a nice pair of discs.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Back Biter 1CD
To be avoided. This is a pirate disc repackaging classic
studio tracks from the 1960s, usually selling at an inflated
price.

Gates Of Eden, Under The Red Sky
DEEP: Another essential set, beautifully packaged with
sensational photos of Dylan from the show. Sound is very upfront,
and Dylan and band are in excellent form. A varied show with
several rarer songs. Even better sound on the bonus trax. All in
all, an excellent collection with a lot of bang for your buck as
disks are completely full. Highly recommended.

DEEP: Soundboard recordings suffering from a compressed
feeling. Sound is a bit harsh on the rockin' tunes, better on the
acoustic trax. These appear to be more Real Live outtakes,
in better quality than on "Real
Live Outtakes," though a few songs overlap. The songs from
Paris sound a bit better. This disk is somewhat enjoyable, though
a bit grating to listen to. I would recommend this to those who
really dig the '84 tour. Otherwise, it's a toss-up. (Great color
cover but it's a 1974 shot on an '84 piece-I hate that).
