DEEP: The complete Applied Materials arena gig presented in
crisp, clear and upfront quality. A fine recording, with distinct
instrumentation and separation, excellent balance and Bob's vocals
riding nicely in front of it all. Very energetic and inspired
performance, with strong and charismatic vocals by Bob. The band
senses the energy and provides strong, muscular backing, to boot.
They all sound like they are having a ball, which makes for some
great listening. The bonus tracks were thoughtfully selected, a
notch below the San Jose quality-wise but still very good. Highly
recommended.

rmd: Great soundboard from 1981, though not quite so good
as the New Orleans show on "Child's
Balloon" and "Stadiums Of
The Damned." Damned fine anyway, with memorable comments
between songs. An essential boot from this era.

CDG: Massive high quality live retrospective compilation;
almost every period is covered (with a few inevitable individual
gaps). Excellent quality, selection and performances.
Heylin: A frustrating mixture of the quintessential and the
humdrum, in packaging that shames the official Bootleg Series 1-
3.
rmd: Sound quality for the "Folksinger's Choice"
tracks is inferior to that on the original "Folksinger's Choice" CD.
rmd: If you don't care about getting the very best circulating sound quality and just want a quick, convenient, listenable collection of some good rare performances, this is fine. But much, if not most, of this can be found in better quality elsewhere, if you're up for a little research.

YOU FIGURE IT OUT
Hawk 073 [T-492]
Jones Beach (Wantagh, NY); June 30, 1988 (line)
Tracklist: Subterranean Homesick Blues, Just Like Tom Thumb's
Blues, You're A Big Girl Now, Tangled Up In Blue, Masters Of War,
I Shall Be Released, Memphis Blues Again, Lakes Of Pontchartrain,
Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, Eileen Aroon, Boots Of Spanish Leather,
Silvio, Gates Of Eden, Like A Rolling Stone, Times They Are A-
Changin', All Along The Watchtower, Maggie's Farm
DEEP: The instruments are really clear and bright, just EQ
the bass down a little and it's really excellent. Warm and natural
sounding. Clear as fine crystal, and Bob's vocals are so sharp, so
detailed he could teach a course in vocal expression. Better
performance than Radio City or Lake Compounce, too.

YOU GOTTA SERVE SOMEBODY
Musichien MCH 1980 1CD [T-157]
Warfield Theater (San Francisco, CA); November 16, 1980 (line)
Tracklist: Gotta Serve Somebody, I Believe In You, Like A Rolling
Stone, Man Gave Names To All The Animals, To Ramona, Let's Keep It
Between Us, Covenant Woman, Se¤or, Simple Twist Of Fate, The
Groom's Still Waiting At The Altar
rmd: The sound quality is pretty good by 1980 standards, but
nothing special. There are now at least a half dozen essentially
identical CDs from this source tape. (Matthew Zuckerman)

Mahal" version usually dated as May 26.

YOU MAY CALL ME ZIMMY
Lucky 003/004 [T-516]
Hall Omnisports (Differdange, Luxembourg); June 24, 1996
Tracklist: Down In The Flood, Lay Lady Lay, Watchtower, Positively
4th St, Most Likely You Go Your Way, Silvio, Visions Of Johanna,
Masters Of War, It's All Over Now Baby Blue, God Knows, Ring Them
Bells, Seven Days, New New Minglewood Blues, Blowin' In The Wind,
Rainy Day Women #12 & 35.
DEEP: Another worthwhile addition to the ever-expanding list
of releases from Mr. Bob's European summer trek. An outstanding
performance, clear and defined sound with no discernible flaws
other than wishing it was a little more upfront, and an interesting
set list with a few rarely played tunes. The performances are
outstanding and take you through the full gamut of emotions --
melodic, raucous, tender, tough, intimate, chaotic.
CDG: The most interesting setlist from the 1996 European
tour, in excellent sound quality.
